Where were you 30 years ago? It occurred to me after a dental appointment the other day, that since I was born there have been incredible advancements in dentistry over the past 30 or so years. Possibly more change than in the past 100 years? Next time you are at the dentist think about what it was like many years ago. When I first started coming to the dentist as a child, there was no digital x-rays or one-visit crowns (Cerec™ crowns). I had to wear the “metal mouth” braces, not the undetectable Invisalign™ braces of today, and forget about one-visit whitening like Zoom™. That being said, I can only imagine where dentistry will be in another 30 years. Is it possible that we will be able to grow a tooth in a lab and have it put in our mouth to replace a damaged tooth? Will there even be a need for such a procedure? Will there be a cure for gum dieses? Time will tell, and I’m excited to see what comes next!

Signs Of A TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) Disorder
Does the thought of biting in to this burger make your eyes water and facial muscles scream in agony? If the answer is yes, then you might be exhibiting one of the seven warning signs of a Temporomandibular Disorder, or TMD.
It’s important to clarify that signs of jaw joint disorder are not limited to issues with teeth. The headache you wake up with every morning, even though you wear a nightguard, is a classic symptom of jaw joint disorder. Infact, at Solace Dental Care, we go through a detailed check list with patients to establish if they are indeed experiencing TMD and create a treatment plan to address signs and symptoms.
If you’re experiencing any or all of the following signs, help is available to you:
- Pain in the neck or face area
- Pain in or around the ear or vertigo
- Stiffness in the jaw
- Difficulty chewing
- Headaches
- Clicking or Popping sounds
- Teeth that don’t come together properly
